Menu Plan Monday

In spite of a busy week and a few days of not being here, I made a plan. It will help me and Phil this week. Even Caleb is missing routine and schedules. We will all be happy next week when school starts and Phil has a 5 day work week. I am done working now. Here’s the plan.

Monday- Crunchy Onion Chicken and Orzo salad with homemade dressing

Tuesday- Burgers and fries

Wednesday- Hot pockets and left overs

Thursday- Tacos

Friday- Spaghetti and garlic bread, maybe meatballs if I have energy to make them

Saturday- Grilled chicken, corn on the cob and potato salad

Sunday- Pork chops, jasmine rice and veggies

I hope this works out like I planned or at least close enough.

How can you not love this?

How can anyone not believe in God when you see a precious one like this? He is such a little miracle. When I have a good one of him with his eyes open, I will post that.-editing to add a new picture, I just got from Lauren.

In the mean time, here is the update. Lauren and baby are doing fine. They come home tomorrow. She is staying through to the 4th day since she had a c-section. This way she can practice walking with the baby while the nurses are around to watch for falls. Plus the getting in and out of bed with him is something she needs to do.

I am tired but doing well. I am home today to catch up on laundry and do some food shopping. And it’s nice to spend time with the boys before school starts next week. Caleb told me this morning that “having babies, starting new jobs and not being in school is kind of crazy and mixes him up”. I agree. We talked about having a routine next week and how life will be easier then. He’s a smart kid!

What a morning….

what a night! Lauren is just about to pop with this baby and so last night I didn’t get much sleep. Then add to that Phil got up at 5:45 AM to take his parents to the airport and that woke me up. I got up at 6:00 AM and decided to just come online and have some quiet time to myself. I got a call from Phil about 20 min. later that his new-to-him truck had stalled about 1/4 mile away from dropping his parents at the airport, they don’t know about the stalling. So I had to drive up there, about a 20 minute drive, with my cell phone, since it has the roadside assistance program attached to the number, and rescue him. We waited for the tow truck and then came home. He was supposed to start his new temporary job today. He just left and it’s now 8:45 AM. Good thing this guy knows him and that this isn’t some story we are making up. And boy, was Phil pissed off over this truck stalling.

Hopefully the mechanic will be able to find the problem. We traded in the last vehicle for stalling issues that could never be found by any testing method. I sure hope he has a good day at work. And I hope Lauren starts real labor today. This is a good time for the baby to come.

Shoe shopping….with boys…

Today I read over at BurghBaby’s blog about her shopping for shoes with A., her dd. Seems little A. is a shoe queen, almost competing with Imelda Marcos! Well it was funny to be reading that today knowing I was taking my boys shopping for their school shoes. Jake, new 13 yo, and Caleb, just about 12, have not been getting along lately. Eveything they do gets on the other’s nerves. Mine too! So I was prepared for a disasterous time.

So imagine my surprise when they actually got out of the van, chose a side of me to walk next to without fighting and then talked about what brand of shoe they wanted. Of course Etnes, DC’s and Van’s were all mentioned. Goodness, I didn’t think boys were so into fashion but a few years back, Lauren got them into the whole cool shoe thing. So we headed to Journey’s for the cool $$$$ shoes. Goodness, it’s a good thing for those boys that the shoes last a year or I would not pay that kind of money. The first pair Jake wanted was sold out in his sizes. Then Caleb chose a pair that was $90! Nope, past my limit. I had to be firm with my limits. Jake walked out happy with his black Etnes and bar lacing.

For Caleb, we decided to go to other stores. We found a great sale at Penney’s on World Industries and Vans. That was good, as he found a cool pair there. That meant, if I was careful, I could find his gym shoes on sale at payless and end up coming under budget. We did! We found a neat mesh shoe for him on sale for $12.00.  Caleb said that these shoes have all the benefits of wearing socks with sandals except he doesn’t look like a geek! lol..I came under budget for 3 pairs. Not bad.

On growing up: Jake now proclaims to be a man. His reasoning? He has armpit hair, butt hair and a faint mustache. I told him I have all that too and I am not a man! Phil high-fived me for that one. So today I noticed the dark leg hair on Jake when checking his shoe size, which is a men’s 9 1/2!

After we bought the shoes, we tried to find some reasonably priced black no-show socks for Jake. That ain’t happening at the mall. $8.00 for 3 pairs? Not! We then went to Panera for coffee and pop and a cookie. We sat and actually had fun, laughing and getting along. Amazing. Then we all watched the Panera worker wash the windows. I dared Jake to go point to a spot and tell her “You missed a spot” but he was too chicken. Then we were just making silly jokes and really having fun. That is what mothering should be. Not all this yelling business. I warned them that when we got home, they were doing the dishes. They did them and even though it took about an hour, they are done and now I can finish this and cook some dinner.

Happy shoe shopping!

Job news

I quit my job yesterday. The truth is, I missed being home and taking care of my family and home. I was gaining ground at getting organized and then I went and got a job. It was long before I was organized enough and things began to suffer. Not to mention that I was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the work I was doing. It was a good job if one can handle it. I tried it and discovered it really isn’t what I want to do. So for now, I am going to keep being a wife and mom and grandma. I like those jobs much better.

Phil and I began the work of getting the hallway and kitchen repainted. He is sanding the places he spakled today. Next week he is doing a temp job, for fun, and I will be, hopefully, organizing some stuff in the kitchen. My neighbor is going to give some input on paint and colors and such. I have chosen red, yellow and popcorn white. But what walls get what color? And the cabinets? Since she is good at picking and decorating with paint, I will get her opinion.

(For the amusement of you, the reader, this post was interupted by my soon-to-be 12 yo ds who needed his hair blow dried before bed! lol)….back to my thoughts…

I have bought most of Caleb’s stuff for school, except clothing and shoes. Both boys need shoes desperately. Their clothing is still ok for the start but we will buy a few tops and socks. Their shorts have faired well for the summer and let’s face it, boys at their ages, don’t care much about their clothes. It’s more like I care.  So we will buy a few things for my sake and I will feel better.

This month I will have a new grandson. His eminent birth is bringing about lots of excitement around here. I am not sure if I mentioned this before, and I don’t want it to surprise anyone come picture time, but my grandson is going to be biracial.  I have been fondly calling him my “chocolate grandbaby” but Lauren isn’t so sure she likes that! Oh well. Ok time to tuck in two tired boys and two tired parents. Look for a new menu on Monday.
