Another Monday
I don’t have my menu plan up yet. It’s mainly due to the fact that I was lazy this weekend and today I am babysitting Isaiah. Apparently I told my daughter I could babysit on Monday and in my pea-sized brain I thought she said Wednesdays. Oh well. So here I am, at her place, on her laptop, posting to my blog. Isaiah is down for another nap. That baby has consummed 10 ounces of breast milk since 8 O’clock. What a chowhog!
Over the weekend Lauren took the boys to visit Brit and family so I did have a lot of alone time with Phil sleeping in the day and working at night. I cut out more burp cloths, took a trip to Joann’s for more fabric, and made killer stuffed manacotti. I took some to my neighbor and we had a nice visit over tea and manacotti for her.
I think I have another purse order. Everytime I pray about our financial situation, I sell a purse. Weird. In my little brain, we have already established it’s size above, I can’t fathom selling enough stuff to make up the needed funds each month. God is working out something in all this. I am not very talented but I enjoy making stuff. I am creative but not disciplined in my creativity. Oh wait, creative people are not supposed to be disciplined. I can try to be all artsy-fartsy but that goes against part of my grain. Rigidness in thinking is part of being bipolar. That is the inner battle in my mind about all this. I just want to finish the burp cloths, Lauren’s new swaddle sheet for Isaiah, the other purse I have cut out and another ribbon blanket then I will feel better. Plus I have Brit’s purse to make the pattern for. She has a beloved purse of a different style and I am going to copy the pattern to make her a new one. Hers is falling apart. I think this new one will be easy but I have to learn how to do a zipper again.
In other news, Phil is loving his job. He is hearing compliments about his maturity, professionalism on the job and his skills. One inspector already approached him to think about helping him in the spring doing some side jobs at a small local airport. Phil needs to reactivate his license by working steadily for 6 months, then he can begin signing off in FAA log books and such. Even with his past experiences, the rules have drastically changed since 9/11 and rightly so.
Ok look for my menu plan later. That is if I have time. Today is the day we try to buy a Wii for the family. The boys have saved their half of the total for the system and add-ons we want. Hopefully the store we are going to has one in stock. If not, I guess we put it on order. Wish us luck!
I sold my purse!
I sold the apple purse and now I have finished a purse for me. Not only am I making the purses, but I am making cute little tissue holders to go in them with the leftover fabric. I will post pics later when my wonderful husband finally finds our camera! Argh….
I am having lunch today with a good friend. I am hoping it’s a good day. The boys are off of school tomorrow and Monday. Long weekend but Caleb will be camping with Scouts and Jake will be home. I hope we can spend some quallity time with him. He is pleasant when he is alone with us. That danged sibling rivalry runs deep with those boys! Much worse than the girls ever had it. I think it might be because they are so opposite in nature, close in age and both boys! That’s gotta be it.
On other good news, Lauren found a job being a part-time nanny. She will be busy because she will have Isaiah with her and the little one she is watching is 14 months old. Plus she is going to work her other part time job once a week and I will babysit. Then she has one other afterschool babysitting job she can get hours from. I guess things are coming together for her.
My tote bag/purse is done!
Ok so it’s just the mock up one but it’s done! Finally. I only cut out the pieces about 3 months ago. I finally got up the courage to sew it. It was a lot of prep work but totally worth it. I am pleased. Here is the bag, hanging.
I am one to learn from my mistakes and I learned from this project. The fabric has an apple print and I cut it against the grain. Oops! The apples should be in verticle stripes but it still works. I think it will be ok since it has interfacing between the layers. Second, I chose not to put a pocket on the outside and now wish I had. I put two on the inside. Here is the inside of the bag. It’s not pink, that is just the lighting.
I am pleased with my sewing, for the most part. I need to do straighter seems but that will come with practice. I have a few ideas that I will begin making for Christmas presents. I have teacher gifts to make and I found the cutest tissue holders and small fabric desk organizers on Whip Up. So those are projects in the works. I am still working on pincushions and burp cloths.
Whenever I tell someone about what I am making, they ask if I am going to be selling the things. They haven’t even seen any of my work! Maybe one day I will be good enough to make a few dollars on my new hobby.
Saga of my redneck neighbor…
Week 1- cutting down huge trees in his front yard and having huge brush fires in said front yard.
Week 2-cutting up firewood and posts a sign “free firewood”
Week 3-still cutting up firewood. sign now reads “cheap firewood”
Week 4- no activity but sign is now reading “free firewood” again
Week 5- New sign “thanks 4 stealing my chainsaw”
Duh! If you are going to advertise your business, lock up your stuff!
My boys…
I have to write about my boys. These days they are changing so much. Jake gets taller each day. And now, what I thought was leftover from a cold, his voice is changing. It’s getting deeper and cracking! Even his friends are noticing it. It’s kind of funny because it sounds like he is faking this voice or he has a cold but he isn’t. It’s changing. And then yesterday he told me he is so stinky and sweating even though he used deodorant. Ah, puberty at it’s finest!
Now Caleb is keeping us on our toes too. He makes us laugh and he uses all these big words. He also uses this “voice over” voice when he is telling us something he is excited about. It’s funny and hard not to laugh, and harder to pay attention to what he is actually saying cause you are stiffling your laugh while he is doing that voice.
The other night I took Caleb to get his haircut and I got mine cut too. Afterwards we sat in Barnes and Noble with drinks and books. He did homework while I looked over craft and sewing books. I asked him if he wanted me to read aloud to him from his reading book. He took me up on that and I set to reading all about Mrs. Cadaver and others. Apparently the man next to us on the right and the young couple on our left were also listening. The girl of the couple repeatedly looked over our way and smiled. But the man at the next table was even funnier. When we got up to leave, he asked me if I would read more about Mrs. Cadaver to him as he was thoroughly enjoying the story! We all laughed and said goodbye. Caleb and I walked off and about peed our pants with laughter over that guy listening to us! Maybe I should read stories more often at the B & N!!!
Today is the day of the week that I volunteer at the elementary school. I do lunchroom duty. That means I open milk cartons, hand out straws, sporks, napkins, ketchup and anything else they forgot. I give the kids permission to get a drink or extra snack. I wipe tables and chat with the kids and staff. What really gets me is the “designer” lunches some parents pack that the kids totally just dump in the trash. Please, if you are a working parent, don’t feed your guilt by giving your kids organice carrots and dip cause they eat one and throw it all away. Lunchables are high in salt and fat and too many “fat” kids are eating those. It’s a shame how much food these kids throw away each day. You could feed an entire African village from the trash can for a week after one day. I think all the parents should see this behavior because they might feel different about paying $2.50 a day for school lunches.
Stepping down from the soapbox. This is something I have wanted to blog about for awhile now.
My new mantra and my blogging friends…
I stole this from Sublty Catty and have decided it’s my new mantra!
I am taking on too much and getting tired and stressed about it all. I am waking up at night, making mental lists in my head about what needs done for each endeavor I have committed to. I think Phil is going to take serious action if I raise my hand again! So in order to preserve my marriage and sanity, no is going to be my new favorite word.
Now on to my blogging friends. I am enjoying new blogs pretty regularly now. I hope to meet some of these ladies too. Now here are the ones I visit daily, some are new, some are not new but worth mentioning again because they make me laugh so much or spark my creativity.
The Gremlin Wrangler -She started video blogging and she is hilarious!
So visit these places for laughs, creative sparks and great recipes!
