I didn’t have a WIWOW post…

because I finished the tote bag on Tuesday. But today I am thinking of a special design for a mission that our youth group is supporting this summer. They are raising $10,000 to send to International Justice Mission to help free slaves, particularly children caught up in the sex-slave/trade industry. It only takes $500.00 to free one slave. I am so proud of my son and our youth group. They are at the half-way mark. I think I might design a tote bag for them to sell. We’ll see, it will be my first try at something like this. Stay tuned.

Here is the Just Love website that our youth created.

Flea market finds

Yesterday Phil and I suddenly had the whole day to ourselves. So we went to a huge flea market. Unfortunately it rained and most vendors packed up and left. But before they did I found a Wiss stainless steel scissor set for $5.00!!! I wanted to find a certain type of shears and found them in that set. Yeah!!! We went there looking for a few specific things and I really didn’t find what I was looking for but Phil? He found several good books to read, a few tools and we bought lots of fresh produce.

I bought a few pounds of peaches for fresh peach cobbler. I bought the ingredients for making Pico de Gallo and more pastries than we should be allowed to purchase on a shopping trip! All in all we had a great day together.

In the evening we went to the church and cooked a pot of rice for the youth group who were doing a reverse missions trip. That is where they stay local, and help out at various ministries in our cities. Well one of their goals was to identify with poverty and the poor among us. They were each given only 1 cup of rice, plain white rice for dinner. Then they created a cardboard village on the church lawn and slept out there last night. It went well. Tomorrow they are going to help with 4 local ministries to the poor and homeless. Jake is there with the group and he seems to be getting it. You can never tell with teens!

Today we are relaxing after church, did some cleaning and Phil’s dad brought over some fish for us to fry. We will have fresh green beans, fish and burgers! What a combo. Oh well, good food and family go together well.

One more note. Friday night Jack, our dog, seems to have ruptured his ACL! He is hobbling around on 3 paws and holding his right rear leg in the air. I have to get him to the vet this week. Poor puppy!

Visiting day

Today I visited with my grandbabies. These are the ones that don’t live near me, the red-headed babies. I love them to pieces! I made them a few gifts and took them to them today. Here is what I made and then here they are with their gifts. Like I said, I love my grandbabies!!!

WIWOW follow-up…

My sewing area is now organized and I like it that way. I was able to begin some small projects today and it was a comfort knowing where everything is. Here are the pictures.

Here is a new thing I am doing…

When I search online, I found a way to earn some bucks, Swagbucks that is. What you do is click on Swagbucks and search through their site and earn SB when you search. They use Google and Ask as their search engines. Since you are going to be searching for stuff, might as well make it count, right?

Then when you build your buck bank, you redeem them for gift cards and lots of good stuff. And you can shop through the site earning even more Swag Bucks!

What I’m Working On Wednesday

Thanks to Cute2Carry for hosting WIWOW.

I am reorganizing my sewing area and folding all my fabrics. Yikes. All I set out to do was go through scraps and make a few patterns for my new Matryoshka dolls. Hmmm, can you say ADD!!!

Pile of scraps and misc. junk from my sewing tub.

My fabric stash, kind of folded but not very neat. I measured the drawer and I am refolding.

Come back tomorrow for the after pictures. Maybe I will have a new doll done as well.

A bit of whimsy

The other day I finally took down my printer’s drawer from the wall along with all the miniatures dating to the 1980’s. Shudder. I always felt a certain pull towards those things, like they owned me and I had to put them up with each move and new place to live in. The whole shebang was so outdated. Yuck.

I have now developed a taste for the whimsy and vintage things in life. Remember salt and pepper shaker collections? Well they are all the rage on the internets and in the local thrift stores. So far one of my local stores is still selling them at a reasonable price. Last month I found this set of red mushrooms. I had to buy them, it was like they screamed my name.

Then just today, while out thrifting, I found a whole ‘nother collection. It was so hard to choose as I saw so many adorable and whimiscal sets. I settled on one set for me and one for our youth pastor’s wife. The planes are for us.

Don’t they look alive? So sweet.  The birds are for Christy.

Maybe next week when all the sets are half-price, I’ll go get another one!

A new purse for me.

I tried a tutorial that said “1 hour purse”! lolololololol…..yeah right. The pattern needed drawn out by me, since hers was not printable. Then I added a flap closure as well so that took some time. I made a few mistakes, which I had to pick apart and re-sew but in the end, I have a fun new purse for me!  Tell me what you think.

The other picture is one of my set of matching hand embroidered flannel backed burp cloths.

My finished project

My latest project was to try and make a quilt, doll sized, that way if it didn’t work out the waste wasn’t too much. A friend gave me a whole bag of fabric, mostly tiny florals and calico-types so I figured that was a good place to start. First I had to wash, dry and press tons of fabrics. Then I sorted them by color to see what I had the most of. Red, blue and purple are the main colors so I chose to make a quilt of the reds. I really like how it turned out.

My boys think I can make just about anything now! lol…they said I should make doll clothes too. I don’t think I enjoy making clothes, gathers and ruffles frustrate me. But this quilt was fun. I have another one all cut and ready to sew for a special friend’s daughter. I hope it looks as good as this one.

No time…

Ever since I found Facebook, I never seem to find time to write here or update this place. I might as well close it down. I think I am the only one looking most days. Oh well, no biggie. I am not a great or even good writer. And this was mainly for me all along. Tomorrow is yet another haircut day for me and Caleb and I want something different but have no ideas. Maybe I can find a picture in a book at the salon. I wish I could get a body wave again or something to give my limpy whimpy hair some body. Maybe if I can sell a few more purses I can do that.

Ok over and out!
